SB East Grows and Cooks

SB East Cooks Thanksgiving meal for 100The last few weeks of this quarter have been marked with much growth and change. Our numbers have grown by over 50%; and when you add that many new people, inevitably the dynamics of a classroom change. As we have been working together to redefine our “family” at South Bend East, it has been encouraging to see that the students’ drive to get their education has not been lost in the shuffle. Abriel and Gabrielle have both completed a course this week, bringing the grand total to 7 credits earned in 4 weeks for our students.

This week we made a Thanksgiving dinner for The Basement, a weekly gathering of staff and students. We served all the fixings for a great Thanksgiving meal to over 100 people. The Basement is hosted here at South Bend East, so the students here were chosen to help make all the food. We had a great time making green bean casserole and candy turkeys. It was fun to watch the students learn some new skills, and bond over a delicious meal.
